WESTMINSTER, MD - The Lynx Track & Field team competed and succeeded Friday at the Green Terror Invitational at McDaniel College. Consistently impressive performances resulted in numerous school records throughout the beautiful day.
The Lynx started the day by winning both the men's and women's 3000-meter Steeplechase. The steeplechase requires the runners to race almost 2 miles, while jumping over the water jump 7 times and clearing 24 barrier hurdles.
Jimmy Schartner, in his first time running the steeplechase, established a new school record. Jimmy ran right to the front and never looked back.
Caroline Vogelsang ran one of the best races of her impressive career breaking her own school record by 40 seconds in her victory.
Ezekiel Harris shattered the school record in the 400-meter dash in the very impressive time of 50.84 seconds. Ezekiel then came back to run with
Jeshua Jerusalem,
Isaiah Sprinkle, and
Jimmy Schartner in setting a new school record in the men's 1600-meter relay.
Surprising himself and the coaching staff,
Carter Wright, running the 400-meter hurdles for the first time, set a new school record by 4 seconds. Distance standout,
Jesse Gresh, added the 5000-meter race to his ever-growing list of records, finishing second overall.
The Lynx Track & Field team next competes Friday, April 10
th in the NJCAA Region 20 Championships at Howard Community College.
