COLUMBIA, MD -  The Lynx competed in the Region 20 Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend at Howard Community College. The men's team scored nearly twice as many points as last year finishing fourth. The women's team was led by Hayley Yuenger's amazing performance, placing in the top three in four events. Hayley won the pole vault, was second in the hurdles, second in the triple jump, and third in the long jump.

While there were many notable performances by our ever-improving team, Carter Wright stood out not just because he broke his own school record in the 400 hurdles, but the circumstances made it even more impressive. The 400 hurdles is one the most difficult single events in track. The runners sprint one lap of the track having to clear ten hurdles along the way. After running the race, still trying to catch his breath, Carter was told that there was an error in the hurdle placements on the track and the race would need to be rerun. Not everyone would embrace this situation. Carter never wavered and accepted the challenge. I've never seen an athlete run the 400 hurdles twice in an hour. Carter's attitude, determination and performance were something to make us all proud.

Six outdoor track school records were broken.Jesse Gresh in the 3000 steeplechase and 5000 meters. Isaiah Sprinkle in the 200 meters. Hayley Yuenger in the long jump and triple jump. And lastly, the men's 1600 meter relay team of Isaiah Sprinkle, Jeshua Jerusalem, Kenneth Perez, and Ezekiel Harris.

The Lynx compete next at the Millersville Invitational on Saturday, April 18.
