STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Lynx Indoor Track & Field team met at 7:45 a.m. Friday morning in the Babylon Great Hall. Twenty minutes later they left for New York to compete at the Ocean Breeze Indoor Track complex. Fourteen hours later they returned to Carroll knowing they had taken another big step forward with their best performance of the season. With so many school records and personal bests, it is hard to find the best place to start.

Deon Whitlow became the fastest college freshman sprinter in the state of Maryland this year. That includes sprinters from the University of Maryland, Navy, Morgan State, Coppin State, and every other college within the state. Deon again beat the all the college competition and broke his own school record in the 60-meter dash, running a dazzling 6.86 to climb up the national rankings.

Ezekiel Harris, running the 400 meters for the first time this season, went to the lead from the start and never looked back, winning his heat while setting a new school record by almost 2 seconds. Then "Zeke" came back to run an even faster time on 400-meter leg of the Distance Medley Relay.

Jeshua Jerusalem, Jesse Gresh, and Caroline Vogelsang broke their own school records. Jeshua in the 800 meters (2:06), Jesse in the Men's 3000 meters (9:34), and Caroline in the Women's 3000 meters (12:06). Strong performances by Maddox Shuman, Jimmy Schartner, Salvatore LaVelle, and Rodrigo Marin added to a day full of personal bests.

With snow on the ground for the past 4 weeks, and nowhere to practice the long and triple jumps, expectations were guarded at best. Yet Nick Brockdorf and Hayley Yuenger both broke school records and set personal bests in the long jump (19'3") and triple jump (33'2") respectively.

The Lynx team concluded their first season of NJCAA Indoor Track ranked #32 in the nation. It was a long day for everyone, but the smiles on faces of the team and the glow of success made it all worthwhile.
