WESTMINSTER, MD - A record breaking year for the Carroll Lynx volleyball team culminated in additional accolades as Karley Badorf was named to the first team of the All-Region 20 Team while Micaela Adami earned Honorable Mention.
Badorf essentially wrote the record books over her two years as a Lynx, helping to build a program from the ground up to a team that won a playoff game in only their second year as a program. While Badorf was excellent in her freshman season, she really took her play to another level in her sophomore year as she was in the top five in the region for both kills and digs. An all-around great player, Badorf finished the season with 269 kills, averaging 3.90 kills per set. The six-rotation star also played immaculate defense on the back line, picking up 267 digs for an anverage of 3.87 digs per set. She also chipped in 22 blocks and 48 aces, averaging to scoring 4.8 points per set for the entire season.
"I'm so honored and blessed to have received this acknowledgement," said Badorf. "Playing my last year of volleyball on Carroll's team has been such a joy."
An outside hitter with a hammer for a right hand, Badorf was known as much for her consistency as she was for the power in which she hit the ball. Given opportunities to hit all over the court, Badorf was marked as the primary hitter in every match she played in and continued to contribute to the team's success every match. Twice on the year she pulled off the incredibe feat of a 20/20 game with 20 kills and 20 digs against Garrett followed by a 26 kill, 27 dig performance against Anne Arundel. In addition to her impressive stats, she was also the captain of the team, showing her leadership qualities throughout the season by always keeping her teammates positive and motivated even in the toughest of matches.
"Karley is a once in a generation player for us at Carroll Community College," said head coach Teri Leatherwood. "She is an amazing player, but an even better person. She makes us all smile so much, it just makes every practice and every match better. We will miss her so much, but we are very grateful for what she has done to create a legacy at Carroll."
Adami had a much different approach to the season as the freshman started the season coming off the bench before progressively earning more playing time. A versatile player, Adami was able to lock down the setter position by the end of the season and set the tone for the team to enjoy a lot of late season success. Adami led the team in assists with 249, averaging 4.15 assists per set. She also played great defense as an all-around player with 116 digs, good for third on the team.
"It means a lot to have been recognized," said Adami. "I can't wait to continue playing next season."
Even with the numbers to back up her success, it was the consistency that Adami brought that really helped solidify the team as a whole. Her chemistry that she developed with all the hitters on the team led to a miniscule amount of unforced errors on the team. While not as vocal of a leader as Badorf, Adami bought into the team philosophy of working hard and staying positive as she earned her place on the team with consistently working hard.
"Micaela has been such a pleasure to have on the team this year," said coach Leatherwood. "I think she could be a player to step up and be a great leader for next year's squad."
