WESTMINSTER, MD - While the 2024 season for the Carroll Community College men's soccer team didn't go as well as hoped, that didn't stop a couple of standout performers from getting honored as sophomore star Daniel Wojtkowiak earned a spot on the first team for the All-Region 20 team while Edwin Alfaro took home an Honorable Mention.
Wojtkowiak was the standout leader and performer for the team from day one as the forward led the team in scoring for a second straight season. After a freshman season in which he scored seven goals, Wojtkowiak followed that with a 10-goal season this year. While he was asked to play both midfield and forward, Wojtkowiak gave maximum effort every second he was on the field and used that to make plays for the team throughout the season.
"I am extremely grateful to be awarded this honor," said Wojtkowiak. "It is a great way to conclude my Carroll soccer career."
Wojtkowiak spread out his scoring as he scored more than one goal in only one game for the season in a hat-trick performance against Cecil College. His leadership on the field was apparent to all as he was a model performer on the field, in the classroom, and a vocal leader throughout the year.
Joining Wojtkowiak in receiving postseason honors was freshman forward Edwin Alfaro. While not as prolific of a scorer, Alfaro was a playmaker in his own way as a player with superior speed and tenacity. Often left alone up front, Alfaro was able to consistently make plays as he led the team with four assists. Alfaro's lone goal was the first one scored for the Lynx on the season.
"These are two very talented and deserving players," said head coach Joe Pratt. "Edwin and Daniel were great student-athletes this year and we were very proud of them for getting recognized by the region."
