Lynx Take Down the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans

In front of a home crowd, the Lynx notched another win, beating the Allegany Trojans by a final score of 4-2, on Thursday, Oct. 7.

Although Allegany countered the Lynx's opening high, fast press with a goal in the 6th minute, they quickly recovered with Joey Brauer driving to the box where he was taken down and awarded a penalty kick. He converted on the PK which tied the score in the 20th minute.

The Lynx outshot the Trojans in the first half 15 to 4 and went into halftime knotted up at 1-1.

"In the second half, we came out with some adjustments and better tempo," affirmed Coach Tom O'Brien. "But again, in the 62nd minute Allegany counterattacked with a goal that put them ahead 2-1."

The Lynx quickly responded with a goal in the 65th minute from Aaron Ostendorf, who "hit a low, hard shot to the left corner from 26 yards out," explained O'Brien.

Tied up again, at 2-2, Kyle Hardy scored the go-ahead goal off a Grant Scibek long throw-in in the 67th minute. Alec Wargo cemented the win with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.

O'Brien noted that the Lynx had "a good, balanced attack with contributions from four different goal scorers and outshooting Allegany 35 to 11, and winning corners 14 to 4. Strong and deliberate play in the central midfield allowed Eric Wojtkowiak to create opportunities through the attacking midfield of Grant Scibek, Abram Castanzo, Alec Wargo and Kieran McMahon. Justus Denning provided a strong presence at holding midfield to keep the team centered and playing on both sides of the ball."

The Lynx host the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
