On Saturday, Oct. 2 in front of the home crowd, Lynx soccer fought hard against the PGCC Owls and came away with their first win of the season. The final score was 2-1.
"We came out strong and played forward from the beginning," explained Coach Tom O'Brien. "Although we gave up a goal in the 28th minute due to a communication breakdown, we came back quickly and equalized in the 31st minute with a goal from Joey Brauer." Brauer's goal was unassisted.
The teams entered half-time tied 1-1.
O'Brien noted that they came out quickly in the second half and scored the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute. The goal was scored by Abram Castanzo with an assist from Michael Panzarotto.
"We continued to take chances and have opportunities in the latter part of the game," said O'Brien. "We had great goal keeping by Tim Wolf, who had six saves and strong distribution. We had tough back line play all around, particularly from Mason Hale. Michael Panzarotto had a very strong game in the midfield along with Castanzo, Eric Wojtkowiak and Kieran McMahon off the bench. It was a total team effort and the result was well-deserved."
The Lynx outshot the Owls 25 to 5 with an advantage on corner kicks of 11 to 4. Total shots were 25-15.
The team heads back to the pitch Tuesday, Oct. 5 for an away contest against CCBC-Catonsville. Kick off is 6:30 p.m.
