In front of the home crowd on Thursday, Oct. 14, the Lynx downed the Chesapeake College Skipjacks by a final score of 6-0.
The win truly was a team effort, with four different players scoring and "strong play from end to end with the Lynx out quickly and determined," noted Coach Tom O'Brien.
Grant Scibek started the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute, followed in the 42nd minute with a goal by Joey Brauer, assisted by Kyle Hardy. Abram Castanzo closed out the half with a goal assisted by Alec Wargo in the 44th minute.
In addition to three goals, the first half featured "dominating backline play from Aaron Ostendorf and Michael Panzarotto and very capable goalkeeping by Mason Hale," explained O'Brien. "[Hale] was not only key with his shot-blocking duties but also was commanding both in the box and out, acting as an 11th field player with off-the-line play and starting the offense from the back."
The Lynx came out quickly again in the second half with another goal from Scibek in the 52nd minute, followed again by a goal from Brauer in the 55th minute. Wargo scored the Lynx final goal in the 59th minute.
According to O'Brien, the second half was marked by "a balanced attack with strong midfield play from Justus Denning, Eric Wojtkowiak and Tim Wolf and a well-organized backline of Hardy, Robby Wagner, Andrew O'Donnell, Ostendorf and Panzarotto. [These} and continued strong goalkeeping from Hale came together not just for a convincing win but for the Carroll men's soccer program's first shutout."
The Lynx outshot the Skipjacks 28 to 11 and Hale notched six saves.
The team travels to CCBC Essex on Saturday, Oct. 16 for a game beginning at noon.
