Coach O'Brien (ob) is going into his 4th season with Carroll Lynx where he has consistently fielded tough Varsity sides while competing in NJCAA Region XX each season. Highlights include, program’s first game and win against Hagerstown (6-3) and Home OT Win against Anne Arundel CC (2-1) in 2019, Competing against Essex CC the #2 Team in the country in the NJCAA Region XX semifinal Spring 2021 and during Fall 2021, beating an always tough Prince Georges CC in a 2-1 “nail biter”, securing program first shutout with a 6-0 victory over Chesapeake College and final game of season win against Anne Arundel CC 3-2 (the eventual Regional XX Division 3 champion). Currently the MSOC team is 11 wins, 26 losses against all competition.
In 2022, he is excited to take on his new responsibilities for both the Mens and Women’s Soccer Program. His focus will continue to be fielding tough, competitive and passionate teams while ensuring we stay focused on the next steps in our journey, learning on the field and off, doing well in classroom, graduating, then moving onto University, Trade, Career or other passions.
Prior to Carroll Lynx O’Brien served as an assistant coach under head coach Graeme Millar at Stevenson University for 4 seasons. O’Brien also played and coached at Towson University for Frank Olszewski’s Tigers.
During his playing career at Towson, he served as the team captain in both his junior and senior seasons. A two-time MVP, he was also an All-East Coast Conference selection and named to the Division I All-South Team twice. O'Brien was the winner of the Towson University “Unsung Hero" award for men’s sports. In 2000, he was inducted into the Towson University Athletic Hall of Fame.
O’Brien develops students off the field as well, serving as an adjunct faculty member at various local community colleges, teaching business, communications and project management. He recently finished a distinguished career working for a multi-national information technology and services company.
In addition to his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Towson, he earned an MBA from the University of Baltimore, a master’s degree in Business and Technology Management from Stevenson University and completed leadership development programs at the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. A native of Baltimore, he and his wife Donna reside in Eldersburg.
